::My Sexy eGo Tank vs. the Cartomizer

I love the eGo-Tank. It is very sexy. The eGo-T works well with my Old Spice cologne and trucker’s boots.

And I love this technical achievement that proves Joye to be even better than I thought they were.

My experience with the Tank was mixed. A huge improvement in convenience. I filled a couple of them up using a blunt-end syringe and both the batteries and cartridges literally lasted all day.

But…I was becoming overpowered with the quantity and density of the vapor. First I believed it was because the eGo-Tank was my first experience with “dripping”. But then the trustworthy people at Nicotine Nirvanna let me know that most people who try the tank think it doesn’t get hot enough to produce desirable vapor. Hmmm….I agreed.

I was made aware of the low-res atties available for the Tank and I ordered a couple of them. Big improvement because the vapor was hotter. Cheaper than the normal atties. With the low-res atomizers, I had the perfect ecig.

But one of the low-res atomizers (of the pair I was using each day) died in less than a week. Died after less then three days of equivalent smoking.

So all in all my experience with the eGo-Tank was not good.

I must qualify my experience–I am biased toward polyfill and a round mouthpiece. I have not been impressed with dripping a 510. Never cared much for the 510 flat tips. So if you drip and like flat tips, your experience may be very different than mine.

I WAS SPOILED BY THE CONVENIENCE OF THE EGO-TANK

I’m now using the 510 extended battery and 510 cartomizer made by Joytech. The cartomizer holds as much juice as a tank. I compared the vape of the cartomizer to the 3-piece 510 setup and l prefer the cartomizer. I’m doing home refills faster every day. This is the ecig for me, at least for now.

I should warn you that the cartomizers gave my non-tobacco juice vapor a slightly noticeable burnt taste. So I’m using tobacco flavors only.

White Joye 510 cartomizers are translucent enough to see how much juice is needed for a filll, and how the filling is going. I think a black or other dark-colored 510 cartomizer would be very difficult to fill.

I’m happy with the result of my journey away from cutting polyfill and carrying little bottles around.

Bottom line. I’m using a really long and thin white ecig with a purple L.E.D. Not a black and chrome macho vapor machine. A different statement about my sexuality I suppose :)

::Considerations for choosing an ecig

October 28th, 2009 | Ecig Hardware | Comments Off

UPDATE: ego-Tank produces heavy dense vapor. 510 with geniune Joytech cartomizer produces dense vapor at start of vaping though soon thins out.

After over four months of vaping and interacting with other forum participants, and having tried the ecigs I’ve listed in my blog sidebar, I am suggesting some questions that you ask yourself prior to purchasing your first ecig. I will try to explain why the following questions are important to you, being as brief as possible:

1) Do I want to vape the best simulation of a real cigarette. Or do I want to vape more pleasant tasting flavors?

2) Do I want my ecig to FEEL like a real cigarette, not just look like one?

3) Do I wish to take short puffs or long draws?

4) Do I wish to use an automatic battery or a manual battery?

5) Can I put up with vapor occasionally burning my throat?

6) How tolerant is my stomach to the VG/PG and nicotine vapor?

7) How often do I wish to charge batteries?

I will compare my RN4081 (as in Npro), DSE901 and RN4075 ecigs to my JOYE 510 ecig. First the Npro/RN4081/DSE901/RN4075, all of which I consider to be examples of ecigs that deliver a “dense” cloud of vapor. The density of the vapor requires only a short puff to deliver a good hit. It works well with automatic batteries. It also results in better protection of the throat from irritation/burning. And more flavor for those who like the more pleasant juice flavors.

However, the dense cloud of vapor occurs because the vapor is more saturated with liquid than an ecig that delivers a less dense cloud of vapor. Unfortunately, the more saturated vapor results in more condensation of the vapor in the mouth, meaning more of the PG/VG and nicotine goes into the stomach than with a thin cloud of vapor. So an Npro, RN4081, DSE901 or RN4075 user needs more tolerance to these stomach irritants in the juice. Some juices will cause more problems than others. And I believe juices attempting to simulate a real cigarette are among these “stomach challenging” juices.

Second, the JOYE 510, which I consider to be an example of an ecig that delivers a “thin” cloud of vapor. The thin cloud of vapor allows/requires long draws. The thin cloud means the vapor is less saturated with liquid. Less condensation occurs in the mouth, so less PG/VG and nicotine goes into the stomach than with a dense cloud of vapor. My first experience with “dense” vapor made me quite sick. Switching to VG did not help. I switched to the “thin” vapor of the 510 and no longer got sick. Not even when I tried very strong tobacco flavored PG juices at 24 mg. So I believe that generally, the thin cloud of vapor is better than the dense cloud of vapor when vaping tobacco flavored juices. Of course, I’m sure there are exceptions.

However, the thin cloud of vapor is dryer, meaning the vapor is more likely to irritate/burn the throat. Also, the long draw will probably require a manual battery. And as evident in the 510 with its normal short battery, the long draw will require more battery recharging. This is why you will want to use the JOYE 510 megabattery that holds a charge a lot longer than the normal short battery. The megabattery will significantly reduce the necessity of recharging.

Note that the type and density of filler material, and carefully chosen cartridge mods can improve your vaping experience. For example, for the all of the Npro, RN4081, DSE901, RN4075 and JOYE 510, use of the “straw mod” will enhance consistency of vapes, and how soon good vaping begins after a top off. The straw mod will also allow complete refill of cartridges without the use of a syringe.

Now about tea bags. I actually found that using tea bags with the JOYE 510 will produce a dense vapor rather than the JOYE 510′s characteristic thin vapor. This makes it possible to get both dense vapor and thin vapor from a JOYE 510. I myself don’t choose this route. I just vape a JOYE 510 and an Npro, and use the straw mod with both of them.

Now about choosing an ecig that looks and feels like a real cigarette. I’ve found that all of the ecigs I’ve tried can be ordered so that they approximate the look of a real cigarette, including the JOYE 510, when it is ordered in white with the normal short battery.

However, I have found it more important to me that my ecig FEEL like a real cigarette. Both when it is in my mouth and when it is in between my fingers. Factors such as finish, balance, shape and material used for the cartridge all play a roll in the feel of the ecig. And of all the reliable ecigs I’ve tried, I think the Npro has the best feel of a real cigarette.

Good luck on your journey. I hope my experience and observations will help you choose the right ecig for your fantastic vaping experience.
